So as you may know (or you may not), I have been doing a monthly interview series since I first started this blog in September. To date, I have done 6 interviews. It’s been amazing getting to know different creative people and learn about their processes. This month, I needed time to catch up on my life, which involved taking a small break from pursuing people to interview.
But I didn’t want to go without some type of interview format this month. I know I have had a small dedicated following, so I started to think: how much do my readers know about me? I realized that they can get to know me more through reading my blog posts but the topics are usually chosen based on what I want to share and what I want people to know. So I decided to interview myself (kind of). I found the “The Blogger Tag” and I used to choose a selection of questions to answer (and modified some things to be relevant to the types of things I talk about here).
Without further ado, here is a quick Q&A to help you get to know me a little better.
Q1) Are you in education or do you work?
Last summer, I graduated from Western University with a BA in English and Creative Writing. I am currently finishing up my graduate certificate for publishing. I have about two weeks left of class, then I will be doing an design internship at House & Home Media.
Q2) What’s your favourite junk food?
My favourite junk food would have to be candy. I have a massive sugar addiction. My favourite candies are nibs (super nibs are awesome too) and also sour keys. Honestly, I can’t be trusted alone in bulk barn (I don't understand how much candy weighs apparently and can spend $30 easily).
Q3) If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?
As previously mentioned in my interview that I did with Anisha from Five Questions Series, I have a caffeine addiction. My weakness is for Pepsi, although I can’t deny the fact that I had 4 espresso shots in my drink yesterday morning. But, if I had to choose, Pepsi would win every time (purely because of my previously mentioned sugar addiction).
Q4) Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?
I have two domestic shorthair cats. I have a orange tabby (ginger cat) that is named Shane. I also have a tuxedo cat (black & white bicolour cat). They are basically my children and sometimes my therapist.
Q5) What’s your favourite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?
My favourite way to spend my free time alone is to curl up in bed with my laptop or the book I’m currently reading. This usually includes foods and at least one cat in the bed.
Q6) What are your number one favourite nonfiction and fiction books?
Non Fiction--Walls: Resisting the Third Reich: One Woman's Story by Hiltgunt Zassenhaus
Fiction—I can’t even think of 1 book that I think I could call my absolute favourite. I have a handful of speculative fiction that I enjoy to read. The Hunger Games would definitely make it in the top 10 because it’s a book that I can read over and over again, and always find something new and interesting. The last time I read the series, I was really paying attention to the relationship between Katniss and her mother. In doing this, I noticed a lot of things that I wasn’t paying attention to during earlier reads. I think that’s what makes a “perfect” book for me.
Q7) What’s your favourite movie?
My favourite movie would have to be the first Hunger Games movie. It’s the movie I watch when I’m sad or sick. I watch it when I’m calm and when I’m anxious. I often put the movie on when I’m going to take a nap.
Q8) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
If I could live anywhere in the world, I want to live in California, just outside of LA. I say this because it’s somewhere warm I can live that also has access to the publishing industry. When looking into publishing, I honestly didn’t think about how it would impact where I ended up living.
Q9) PC or Mac?
If I had to choose between the two I would definitely choose Mac (despite the fact that Apple keeps removing important part from their laptops, but thats besides the point). In terms of usage, I can use both systems pretty fluidly. I’m used to working on PCs at work, although currently my work is using Macs, which I’m luckily used to.
Q10) What’s your biggest blog-related pet peeve?
My biggest blog-related pet peeve is reading listicles with no introduction or strong reason as to why I should be reading it. I feel like a bunch of information is being thrown at me, but not much else. I’m sure there are instances where this works, I just haven’t seen any yet that make me feel otherwise.
Q11) What’s your biggest writing pet peeve?
For writing, my biggest pet peeve is asking someone for constructive criticism, but all they offer you is “That’s great!” Yet no one seems to want to publish my writing. If I reach out for help, I’m looking for issues that you wouldn’t bring up if unsolicited. Please, if someone asks you for feedback, try to find at least 1 area of improvement for them.
Q12)Who is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is my mom. I watched her world fall apart and as she built it up again. We came from very little but we were always blessed because of her constant hard work and dedication to providing the best life she could for our family. She’s the reason why I am passionate about pursuing my dreams and my career before starting a family. She’s the reason I work as hard as I do.
Q13) One thing you are proud of?
I am proud of the fact that I have grown so much in the past two years. I pulled myself out of a state of hysterics and panic attacks. I didn’t think I would make it through university and almost dropped out because I wasn’t as prepared as I thought I was. But through that state of disarray, I was able to grow into a person I am proud of being and fall in love with the person who I was supposed to be with all along. But none of that could have happened without my ongoing growth.
