Of course, I’ve kept in touch with a few people that I met and became friends with long ago. But these are the people who I knew were true friends from the start. They were friends that we had because we wanted to, not just because we saw each other at school everyday. I don’t see these friends very often, unfortunately, but I know that the love is always there.
I am thankful that the majority of my high school friends are still true friends to me. I may not see them that often anymore. Sometimes its months or even close to a year before we see each other again. I think that’s why social media is great. Things like snapchat make it easy to keep in touch with the things going on in your friends lives without much effort. And friendships that are natural and don’t need a lot of effort are the ones that I cherish the most.
When I say hello to my distant friends, I feel warm and glad. But sometimes we don’t get much time together. Sometimes we may only get an hour or two with each other. And then we have to say goodbye. But we don’t want to say goodbye.
We want to stay with each other. Near their comforting voice and presence. Near their caring soul. We want to laugh and watch movies. Go on adventures and eat good food. But the time sometimes is cut short. And then we have to say goodbye.
We hate it and it’s torturous. But we can cope with these feelings because we know that there will always be another hello.
