Autumn Self-Care Goals
One thing that I have noticed about myself is that my mood changes with the seasons. My depression gets worse as the weather gets colder and the days get shorter. But I have decided that I don’t want to live in that cycle anymore; I don’t want to get depressed as summer turns into fall and fall to winter.
Recently, I have been setting self-care goals for myself and I’ve been working hard to achieve those goals. This fall, I’m going to set some self-care goals that I’m going to track weekly. Self-care is going to be so important this autumn, especially with me starting a new job next week.
My Self Care Goals for the Fall of 2018
I love reading and writing. It’s why I got into the publishing industry to begin with. I consider keeping my passion for literature alive a great part of self-care. The more that I read and write, the better I feel. So, I decided to set three literary goals for myself:
Read at least 2 chapters every day
I absolutely love to read and I always feel so accomplished when I finish books and work hard toward my yearly reading challenge. I find it extremely relaxing to get thrown into another character’s world and escape from your own problems, even if it’s just for a little bit. So I want to challenge myself to read 2 chapters every day, which won’t be too hard on the days that I need to commute to work.
Write in my journal 2-3 times a week
I find journalling so therapeutic. Even if I don’t have anything important or interesting to say, I always feel good after I write a page or two in my journal. I take a long time to fill my journals and this goal is motivated by wanting to buy another journal. I don’t think I’ve ever actually filled an entire journal with my thoughts so I think that will be extremely satisfying.
Write my blog posts on my days off
One thing that I really want to start doing is posting on my blog regularly. Since I will be working full-time now, I know how important it will be to write on my days off. Since I will be posting twice a week, I need to write my posts for the upcoming week on the weekend. I think that the best approach is to write my Sunday post on Saturday and then write my Wednesday post on Sunday. Of course, if I’m feeling inspired, I will try to get ahead so that I always have posts ready, especially when I’m not feeling up to writing.
Now that I have a job, I am going to need to create routines in my life so that I don’t get overwhelmed with all of the things that I need to do on my weekends. I know how important routines are for my self-care goals so I am going to work on 2 routine-oriented goals:
Implement a personal hygiene routine
The best way to take care of yourself is to have a good personal hygiene habit. One routine that I would like to start is a skin care routine. I have been lucky this far to have mostly clear skin. And I figure that the best way to keep it that way is to work on creating a regular routine with that. And of course, I want a regular routine of when I shower, do my hair, etc.
Implement a routine for house work
There is nothing worse than feeling overwhelmed with housework. To avoid this, I’m going to work with my fiancé to create a regular routine for both of our chores. This way we won’t feel overwhelmed or spend our 1 day off together cleaning the house.
“Treat Yourself” Goals
I’ve learned that the best way to get through stressful periods of times and avoid anxiety is to make goals for treating yourself. Whether it’s buying yourself a new book or going out with friends, it’s always good to have things to look forward to. This fall, I’m going to treat myself to three things:
Treat yourself to 1 thing a month
This treat can be anything. It can be a physical object or an outing with friends. It doesn’t matter what. It’s just important that you do 1 thing a month for yourself.
Take a bath 2-3 times a week
Nothing says “stress free” like reading a good book while taking a nice warm bath. Baths are a good way for you to escape from the world and have some alone time. I am going to have to have a few baths every week.
Have a girls night once a month
On top of the other thing that you treat yourself to once a month, I’m also going to work hard to have at least one girls night a month. It’s so important to maintain relationships with your girl friends. Once a month, I am going to have a “girls only, no boys allowed night” (or day) and it will be so rewarding.
