I'm a Hufflepuff: Loyal and Proud
The Hogwarts Houses have become a part of the identity of the Harry Potter fandom. I always thought I was a Ravenclaw because of my immense love for books and free-reigning imagination. I fully believed that I was a Ravenclaw to the point where that was the “House” I was in during my Harry Potter English course at Western University.
So naturally, I always assumed that I was a Ravenclaw from that point on. But when I signed up for Pottermore and took place in my sorting, I got sorted into Hufflepuff House. At first, I was surprised. I wasn’t sure at first, so I actually went ahead and took the test again using a different email and account; I was sorted into Hufflepuff once again. The more I think about it, the more I realize that Hufflepuff is the perfect house for me.
Reasons Why I’m Not a Ravenclaw
I think the main reason why I’m not a Ravenclaw is because I don’t agree with the ethos that was etched into Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem: “wit beyond measure is a man’s greatest treasure.” As much as I love books, and cherish learning and out-of-the-box thinking, to me, the greatest treasure that you can have is a loyal friend. While Ravenclaw’s prize wit, learning, and wisdow, I value hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.
Reason Why I’m a Hufflepuff
One of my fundamental beliefs is that if you work hard and you’re kind, then you will go far. I believe that anything can be achieved with hard work (and team work). I have high standards of things that I expect from myself, and of others. I’ve worked hard to get where I am today. And because of it I’m working in my dream career at the age of 22.
Patience is one of the things I’ve had to work hard for because of my high-expectations of others. I’ve realized that not everyone has the same work ethic and outlook on day-to-day tasks. It used to cause frustration but I’ve worked hard to become more and more patience, especially when people don’t live up to my expectations.
Loyalty is the one thing I have known that I’ve always valued and it’s something that I expect out of all my friendship and of myself. When I find my people, I am fiercely loyal and protective. I think that’s why I value people who reward loyalty and surround myself with people who have proven their unwavering loyalty to me.
The last reason why I know I’m a Hufflepuff is because I believe in fair play in terms of treating others how you want to be treated and that what goes around comes around. I’m a big believer in karma and that everyone will get what they deserve in the end. This doesn’t mean that I think everything needs to be fair. But that I think treating some justly is one of the most important things.
What Hogwarts house do you belong to? Are you proud, ambitious and cunning like a Slytherin? Do you value the virtues of courage, bravery and determination like a Gryffindor? Or do you prize prize wit, learning, and wisdom like a Ravenclaw? Or you like me and value hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play? Let me know in the comments below!
